ความเป็นมา
ไก่ไซ่งอนมีต้นกำเหนิดมาจาก กรุงไซ่งอน ประเทศเวียดนาม จึงมีการเรียกชื่อไก่พันธุ์นี้ตามถิ่นที่อยู่อาศัยเดิมของมัน มีต้นกำเนิดที่นิยมเลี้ยงและเล่นกันอย่างแพร่หลายในแถบลุ่มแม่น้ำโขง ในส่วนของการเข้ามาในไทยนั้น ยังไม่ปรากฎอย่างเเน่ชัดว่าเข้ามาในเวลาใด เเต่คาดการว่าอาจจะมารับการส่ง บรรณาการ หรือการติดต่อค้าขายของเวียดนามในอดีต เเพร่ขยายต่อ ๆ กันมา จนมีชื่อเสียงเเลัได้รับความนิยมในไทย
Kai Saigon originates from Saigon, Vietnam. Hence, this chicken breed is called based on its original habitat. Has origins that are popular to raise and play widely in the Mekong River. In terms of entering into Thailand It still does not clearly appear to have entered at any time. เอกลักษณ์
หัวมีขนาดที่ใหญ่ มีโหนกแก้มที่โดดเด่น ใบหน้ามีความดุและเชิด ลักษณะโครงสร้างลำตัวขนาดใหญ่ ผิวหนังมีสีแดงมีความหยาบหนาและมีความแข็ง โดยเฉพาะผิวหนังส่วนลำคอ มีน้ำหนักตามมาตฐานประมาณ 2.8 – 5.0 กิโลกรัม ลักษณะของลำขาและเกล็ดขาเรียงกันอย่างสวยงาม เป็นระเบียบ มีเกล็ดขาตั้งแต่ 2 แถวขึ้นไปทั้งสองขา แต่ถ้าหากมีเกล็ดขาเรียงกันตั้งแต่ 3 แถว ถึง 4 แถว ถือว่าเป็นไก่ที่หาได้ยาก แข้งจะเป็นทรงสามเหลี่ยม แต่แข้งสี่เหลี่ยมจะดีมาก แข้งลักษณะกลมจะไม่นิยมนำมาเล่น ส่วนของต้นขาต้องมีขนาดใหญ่และกล้ามเนื้อเป็นมัดรูขุมขนกว้าง ลักษณะดวงตาจะมีความคล้ายกับดวงตาของกบ ใหญ่และมีสีขุ่น มีความใหญ่ หนา และแข็งแรง ส่วนหางจะมีขนที่ใหญ่และรูปร่างคล้ายใบพัด
